About the club

Message from the Chairman: Robin Hambidge

Welcome to the Banbury Skater Hockey Club Website.

Inline hockey is one of the most exhilarating, enjoyable and exciting sports you can do with both boys and girls competing and playing in teams together.

Our club started back in 1999 as the Kineton Cavalier Skater Hockey Club and was co-founded by Mick Slater, David Sykes-Tucker and Darren Capel and was named after the local battle of Edgehill.

It was established to teach children of service personnel based at the nearby Kineton Army Camp how to skate and play hockey. At the time, it was held in the drill shed, and it soon became apparent that this area was too small and open-sided, so not suitable for winter training.

The Club took off during the summer holidays of that year when it moved to fill the void left by the Saturday Roller Disco when it closed for the summer holidays down at Spiceball Sports Centre in Banbury. This was a great success, but the Club had to find a different slot to train when the Roller Disco re-started. Later that year, the Club was re-named the Banbury Bulldogs Skater Hockey Club; we currently train at Warriner School, Bloxham.

Having played Ball hockey since 1999, we started to look into playing Puck Hockey. In September 2015, the Bulldogs entered into the BIPHA Midlands League, which plays at Lutterworth. We still play in this league along with the BRHA (British Rink Hockey Association) League based in Bordon.

Each year the Committee looks into corporate sponsorship for our teams and funding for the Learn to Skate programme. Please see the Sponsorship and Donations section of the website.

It’s important to remember that we are run entirely by volunteers, and we need more parents to offer what they can to the Club. The majority of current committee members have no prior background in roller hockey and have become involved in the Club through their children’s interest in the sport. I would actively like to encourage new members to join the committee – it is very rewarding.

The club wishes to thank the following for their help and support
